Even in the worst of times, I believed in miracles. How could I not? Having emotionally survived infertility and several miscarriages, topped by the loss of my job, I found strength and inspiration in my long-awaited miracle baby Jillian Nicole. The moment I held my precious newborn, I knew I was always meant to be a mom and every milestone from that moment on was a triumph of victory.
Jillian grew so quickly and like most new moms, I soon was faced with a closet full of barely used infant clothing. Not sure what to do with them all, I began selling them on eBay. I was amazed at the results and soon realized the huge market for affordable baby clothing and accessories. I then decided to use my love for the smell, touch and look of "everything baby" to pursue my passion of starting my own business.
By simply applying my 20 years of corporate marketing experience with my newfound passion, my family and business were soon all tied together in one package. My business has been transformed from a start up with 50 products to a full service baby superstore. And in the period of 8 years, I have moved in warp speed from the unemployment line to the president of a six-figure plus business.
My Miracle Baby Inc. has become the subject of a book about work-at-home Moms, more than a dozen news clips, as well as a 2-page accolade in Queens Parenting Magazine. One of our more special recognitions is our recent acknowledgement as a "Fortune 52" company by the Long Island Press, an award for which we are extremely proud. We also have achieved a safety rating of 100% five years in a row, a distinction we don't take lightly.
Today we are thriving--and offer more than 2,500 products--including baby clothing, personalized baby blankets, bibs, onesies and the sweetest gifts for baby showers and christenings. For special occasions and pageants, we offer a baby boutique that features top of the line fancy party dresses and boy's suits and tuxedos.
What brings this business all together the most is that we also have created a community, a miracle baby family, where you can see the most awe inspiring stories of the tiniest survivors. We encourage moms to engage with one another and share the joys of motherhood and the trials and tribulations of being a new mom. We honor our miracles with a baby photo contest where it's nearly impossible to pick a winner. Also, to keep it fun for our customers, we give out awards: kindest customer, nicest customer, most polite customer, and their photos and comments are posted on our favorite customer's page.
I consider myself an inventor -- or perhaps I've simply reinvented myself. What I love most about seeing my business prosper, is that it doesn't matter how busy the site gets, I still make my own schedule and take my 8-year-old to the bus every day. I have one of the most loyal customer retention rates in the industry; I believe because customers know I am not only accessible but truly care about their shopping experience. I think they can tell that I am not a business person only out to make money "I just want to make an honest living doing something I absolutely love. I am now able to celebrate my miracle baby and my successful business" yes, miracles do happen.
